Buckrail.com spreads the word about fate of Five and Dime ride - Bucking horse ride in Gaslight Alley headed out to pasture
JACKSON HOLE, WYO – It looks like the end of the line for a cherished amusement ride outside a local merchant space in downtown Jackson.
Owners of MADE and Mountain Dandy were told by the board of owners of Gaslight Alley where they do business that they must remove a bucking double horse amusement ride due to “safety concerns and liability issues.”
The horse ride has become somewhat of a kids’ favorite since it was first installed in 2010 just outside of the local shops in Gaslight Alley. Lisa Roarke, of Mountain Dandy, said the attraction has been extremely popular and they are sad to see it have to go.
“Day in and out we see little kids physically dragging their parents down the alley, knowing exactly where they’re headed. The horse is the main reason we keep the register drawers stocked with quarters at all times,” Rourke said. “We feel the horse so well represents the character of the old West and provides nostalgia, especially for older generations. We’d love to keep the horse here in town if we can.”
The shared space is under the jurisdiction of a governing board consisting of other shop and property owners. At a recent meeting a vote was taken and it was decided the 35-year old ride has to go.
